Can I just drop the.
I just bought a 1992 LS teg 3 dr, and the #3 cylinder is hurtin. Can i just drop the pan, and pull the crank down replace all the broken stuff (rods, bearings rings, whatever) rather than pull the whole motor out? if so could someone please help me by giving me some guidance? Thanks,
Nick

Of course you can! I've done this a few times. Pull the head, and drop the pan (no need to drop the crank) then unbolt the rods, and push the pistons up out of the cylinder. You can hone it also, it's the same as having the engine out of the car.

how do you hone your own engine?!

yeah i figured if you hone it, all you would need to do is pull the head off. If i dont have to pull the crank, the better. dont wanna deal with all that tranny stuff. the only thing that worries me is the crank needing resurfacing then all that **** i might as well buyy another LS motor. save myself some time and aggrevation.
I jsut did this myself im putting it all back together tomarrow. Just drop the pan pull the head. Unbolt the pistons and push them out the top. To hone is you can goto autozone or where ever and buy the tool you need or you may even be able to rent it.
it can be done, check out my post

i bought a hone from sears and honed the cylinders with the engine sitting in the car, just be sure to clean off your crank bearings of all the dust and shavings that it produces so you dont cut a bearing when you put it back together again.
