Default an opinion, SOHC or ZC

i have a 90 si, im looking to keep it factory looking but kinda want something to make it a lil more fun, ill have the rest of the aem pullys in a few days for the d16, but im thinking of adding the SOHC vtec head to my block or should i do the DOHC ZC motor? i know both will be about the same hp rating, but i dont know which would be the easiest and most realiable, also i need it to look like it was factory, im leaning to the vtec b/c i can get a non-vtec valve cover, im use to the way a 2 stroke hits and pulls and would like to try to get the motor to pull the same way, any ideas and opinions are welcome,

2-stroke? They're all 4-stroke motors buddy

I'd personally go with the VTEC head. Or even better, just swap out for an entire D16 VTEC, block included. They go for cheap anyways. Reliable and decent aftermarket support for the SOHC VTECs.

vtec head if your compression test comes out good.. if you have a leaky bottom end.. then get a zc.... my buddy runs very low 15s in his hf crx with a strong zc motor..

btw: my 91 si motor with 149k on it has 185 across the board on its compression test.. and still pulls like a champ..
if you get some numbers like that you might just consider a cam and cam gear.... it all depends on how fast you want to go.. and how much you wanna spend

I'm sorry to beat a dead horse... but it sounds like you're driving a chainsaw... LOL

OK, as for my opinion? Why not just swap in a SOHC VTEC motor, instead of converting yours to a MiniMe setup? I'm a fan of not screwing with engine internals if it's not necessary. It also makes it easier to find replacement parts .

If you're going to do the ZC swap, you might as well save a little eensy bit more and do the B16A swap. Believe me, it'll be a LOT more fun .

i know there is a difference between the 2 and 4 stroke, i have been racing 4 wheelers all across the east coast for about 10 yrs, so i have a lil mechanical ability, but the way vtec can hit and pull is the way the 2 strokes have the powerband that kicks in, plus once youve felt the pull of a built 2 stroke nothing feels the same, im just trying to find a better way to get a lil more power, i do want to mess with internals down the road, just to make sure its strong, but i would like it to look as factory as possible, this is my everyday car and gas prices suck, this is the cleanest crx i have found and would like to keep it clean and i told my parrents ill keep this one factory, hahahaha,,, right,,,,,well thanx for the opinions, btw whats some 1/4 mile times for a stock 1.6?

most si's run low 16's.. but you can find em that run strong and pull high 15's stock..
zc would run 15.4 or so..
sohc vtec would run 15.2 or so
sohc vtec on crx block would run 15.1 or so..
b16 would run 14.7 or so

i don't know how many of you have done this swap but i have.i have an 89dx with a 93si motor a d16z6.the swap is relatively easy.you'lle need a wiring harness to adapt to the vtec.the best place to find out the pros and cons of these two swaps is hybrid.honda-perf.org/ they explain everything pretty well.if i can help shoot me a email.i've had mine in for a while runs great not sure what it's capable yet because i have trouble with traction.good luck with your choice.

personally, i did the SOHC Vtec swap on my CRX si and hated it... i made my own vtec controller with MSD parts and the car bogged like hell cause i was using my stock computer.. unless you get the write computer for the car (maybe from zdyne.com) i would rather go with the ZC swap... more adjustablity cause of the second cam. you'll run into more problems than what it's worth. (the worth is equal to about 18 more HP and maybe zero TQ)

FYI i pulled the D16Z6 with in a month to go with a B16A!
