my passenger side rear strut assembly (on the top of it) has been rattling/gingling for a while and i've been trying everything i can think of to tighten it down and stop it from rattling with no luck. the culprit is the uppermost metal washer gingling between the metal spacer that goes between the two rubber pieces that form the upper bushing, and the lock nut on the top. seems like no matter how tight i tighten that lock nut...the washer still gingles when i hit small imperfections in the road. and it's only that corner...no other corner does it. AND this is a new strut, the old one did it too. should i just put a lock washer between the big upper washer (the gingler) and the lock nut, or what? anyone else had this problem that's willing to admit they're as paranoid about rattling sounds in their car as i am?

 

Try using a 5mm allen wrench to prevent the shock shaft from turning when you tighten the nut.

yeah i know about the allen wrench...that's the only way to tighten down the lock nut. my confusion is that i have already tightened the lock nut down past the marked "safe distance" stated in the documentation that came with the strut. the gingling is just annoying.
