Default To Z10 Girdle or NOT to Z10 girdle??

Well, just thought i would try and get a general consensus on whether it is necessary for me to get a z10 block girdle for my bottom end. A small background on my setup. 98 b20b block .20 over, and b20 crank. Eagle hbeam rods, endyn pistons, honda bearings. I would like to get a different ecu that i can rev higher with, so i can take advantage of my skunk2 cams that i just bought. But some say i will run into reliability issues if i start to rev higher. Right now ive got a 94 gsr ecu and it revs out to 8 grand i think. I would like to have an ecu that i can have a limitier at 9500rpms, and shift at about 9200rpms. My question is do you think i should get a block girdle, or is it not necessary since im not revving over 10grand,and ive got balanced rods/pistons(crank isnt balanced, stock)? Please take the time to vote, and let me know why you voted one way or the other if you have time. Thanks.

ERIK

get a girdle, at least a gsr one if not the z10 one, i went ahead and bought the shot-peened version. Rather spend money on the front end and save from spending money after something breaks due to neglect of reliability. I'm sure you'll be abusing the motor, so I suggest at the very least, the gsr girdle.

Dude is your block sleeved..??? Because that B20 isNT goning to handle 9,000 RPM for a very long time..it can handle the pressureof high compression but it cant handle the high revs..soo Yes, get the Girdle...its bad enough that the B20/LS block has a longer stroke then any other B-series..but then your gonna rev it like a Vtec motor with no girdle..! Your crank just might end up in your oil pan..its happend before...im planing on getting my Z10 girdle as soon as i sleeve my CR-Vtec..

its not sleeved. How high do you think is okay to rev it without sleeving it, provided i were to get a block girdle 10K2HVN? thanks

Spoon has a neat girdle that straddles all five main bearings instead of 3 and is part of a high capacity cast alum. oil pan. IMO definitely some sort of girdle and 9000 rpm may be too high even with girdle. Im planning something similar and bought an ITR crank to destroke the B20 to the same R/S as the GSR/ITR, you lose around 40cc`s (1973cc`s to around 1933). Another choice is hi pin pistons and extra long con rods further improve R/S, its an expensive choice though. Dart/Payn recently released an aftermarket closed deck (no block guard) B series Honda block and its available with a .55" higher deck and 81.5 or 84.5mm bores. All Honda parts fit. Im looking into it, its around $2100. This high deck block brings you to the "perfect" rod/stroke ratio of ~ 1.74 and poor R/S is a big reason the B20`s break at very high rpm.

I'd do it just to be on the safe side. I mean, you spent all that money already right? I wouldn't skimp here. Help the poor, weak b20 stock sleeves as much as you can A gsr girdle and all necesarry parts for install can be had for less than what a Z10 unit costs. You gotta take it to a machine shop and do this though https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=263598 .

Good luck! Dont skimp!

Most people say not to rev it past 7.2k RPM but i rev mine to bout 7.8~8.2 almost everyday but anything over 8k is really pushing the evelope...

i assume you are doing b20vtec? if not then why go allmotor on a B20 and get rid of that ECU, if so then you can or dont need the girdle, many people run that kind of setup succesfully without one.

Im a little unclear what you are saying here. I already have a built b20vtec 12.1 to 1 comression built for All Motor. I am currently running a stock GSR ecu, but was considering getting another ecu program, or chip, so that i could rev out higher than 8k rpms, so that i could take better advantage of my skunk2 stage II cams that i just bought.

What setup do many people run succesfully without a girdle hybridvteceg?

Im starting to think that maybe i should just leave my revlimiter alone, and be happy with 8k rpms, since my motor is already built, and i dont want to tear it down to have it line bored at this point, just so i can rev higher. Maybe ill just hit the dyno and see how much power i can get with the stock gsr program. If im not happy, maybe ill have to get cams that make more midrange, and a lower peak power, so that i can still go fast with my 8k rpm revlimiter.

Keep the opinions coming guys, thanks.

ok you didnt say you had B20vtec thats all..

most LSvtecs with high compression i know of dont use a girdle...

you sould get an ECU with no rev limit, and you dont need to get it line bored to rev higher.

instead of getting another ECU..just get hondata and use your gsr ecu..cant go wrong with that no matter what you have..sounds like your gonna do some dyno tunning anyways...and too those guys running lsvtec with no girdle..im not running one either..but i plan to in the future...
What kind of pistons are you running..? Price..? If its shelf, do they have 11.0~11.5 to 1 compression ratio??? Thanks..Peace..Happy New Year....

And the guy who started that thread, FFGeoff, is the one who engineered it for Z-10 and he is against the product put out by z-10.
