can i run no vafc with 390cc
this vafc stuff is messing with me to much. What will it take to run these 390cc injectors without a vafc..? i just keep getting CEL Map and i have a missing link. so.. can i do this and do i need a fmu or what ? Ya .. it is on a d16 sohc with a cam and mild polish job. 5-8 psi

i believe you have three options if you dont want to use the VAFC.
1. You can use an FMU, maybe 4:1 or 8:1, not sure which one. and an inline fuel pump.
2. You can get a standalone, Hondata, AEM EMS, etc.
3. You can get SMC, but i dont know if you have to use the DSM 450cc injectors. DSM injectors run on an average ~$50.
there might be other options, but these are the most popular.

390cc inj. are too big to run with a fmu..run the stock inj with an intank pump and a 10 to 1 fmu...your car won't even idle on 390's..even with the vafc..your car will run fine on stock ecu....
You're getting the MAP CEL after you boost higher than the 390's will cover when you have the fuel tuned in.
Talk sweetly and in a low tone of voice to a DSM kid and see what you can't get a set of 450cc's for - problem solved. Well, unless you're worried about the intermittant code 1 because you can't turn the pulsewidth down enough at idle to keep from going rich rich rich.
I had to tweak my fuel maps around the idle area from 1.68 milliseconds down to 1.2 milliseconds before I could tune my 450cc's in right. A lot of the people I know running the AFC type hacks turn up the fuel so much you can smell it to maintain good idle characteristics.

this is what i have.. i have 390 .. ..i idle just fine with the 390s RED top dsm injectors, i dont have the vafc hooked up.. ..or the fmu.. where should i start
OMFG, and you're boosting on it? Dude, DON'T do that - you aren't getting any fuel under boost + the engine will pop.
Hook up the AFC and turn down your fuel about -32% across the board, both lo and hi maps. Be very careful going into boost - watch the AF gauge, and adjust the fuel as needed. If you have no AF meter, run the O2 input in through the AFC's blue wire (second input) and monitor it on misc --> sensor check menu. 900-925 mV is about what I'd aim for under boost.
And FWIW, before anyone says he's full of sh*t on idling the 390's, I can idle my 450's without the AFC. It stalls pretty soon due to fouled plugs, and I can't rev without bogging, but it idles.
