Those with Aftermarket fans.. Used switch or no??
Still having the fan coming no all the time problem and I figure it is the switch. Just wanted to know if anyone one of you guys wired up the aftermarket fan without the switch.. I am about to either take it off or replace it but I want to do what is easiest..
I wired my fan to a regular toggle switch. I just watch the engine temp. and turn it on once it hits about 170 degrees or so. The wiring is very simple.
I just used the stock Si fan (H22EK) I know they say it won't fit, but it does with a bit of trimming. I have the HCP mount kit, including front crossbar. With some trimming it works great. I just used the stock wiring, and it comes on when its supposed to. Works well.
Well in the EK you have a bit more room to work with.. I guess all I really want to know is if anyone wired up the fan without the switch and what happened when you did.. My fan switches on, but it does so 1 minute after you turn the key and it stays on all the time.. Its a bitch in the winter because it takes the car that much longer to warm up.. Hence no Vtec.
Is it a stock replacement or just an extra fan? If it's a stock replacement, then I would wire in conjuction with the thermostat. If you wire with thermostat, you don't have remenber to flip the switch. Trust me, you will not remenber to flip the switch one of this day. It happened to me. I almost overed heated the engine.
Its a stock replacement and I wired it up by splicing the stock civic fan harness and then just plugging it into the stock plug. However I spliced the wires with the fan switch included. I just wanted to know if I splice without the fan switch if the fan should still turn on properly..??
I used to have the SPAL fan wired up to a switch with my stock motor. But when I did the h22 swap, I just wired it to the stock switch and works just fine for me.
sorry you're having the problem Jason.
I hope you can get it fixed. Have you look at the mugen thermostat switch at all?

I guess it could be just the stock switch that is bad. However it does turn on a minute after the key is in the on position. But it definately is not working right. I changed both ECT sensors too but that did nothing..
I guess I will just have to wire it up that way without the switch and see what happens..
