Default going to dyno today--> tuning SMC

Hey I'm going to a dyno tonight to tune my SMC. I've got a B18B1 with an IHI turbo @ 10psi. I'm also running 450cc/min injectors and a 255 lph pump. Is there anything I should know before I go?

I've street tuned the best I can so I think I've got a good base to start from. Also I've noticed that the dials on the SMC are very sensitive.

I'll post the graphs tommorow so stay tuned.

I've got an Apexi turbo timer with the a/f meter built in but I'm using a wide band at the dyno to tune of course. I'm also running a Greddy FMIC and a Thermal 2.5" exhaust and a 2.5" test pipe. Oh, I've got an 11lb flywheel.

I'm using the Apexi turbo kit for the D16Z6 so I am really curious to see what kind of shape the graph has.

What are you talking about ???

The SMC "blows" ... backup what you are saying please ... (unless this is sarcasm)

I think under the circumstances those are pretty good numbers considering this: "Apexi SOHC kit". You do know SMC or Hondata (11psi for Hondata) runs at 10psi MAX with either 440cc - 550cc's combo. After that you will need a 3 bar MAP sensor for Hondata to see mor PSI.

Well, here's the deal with the SMC. If you look at the dyno graph of my set up you'll see that the boost comes on between 2.5-3k rpms. Now I tried and tried to dial in my a/f but I could not do it. I need the fuel cut back at 2.5k and majorly added at 4k.

I am running 450cc/min injectors at stock fuel pressure with a 255lph pump. When I turn up the smc all the way rich I can not get any richer than 13.5:1 around 3.5-4k rpm. That sucks. Also when I do this I flood the motor before boost comes on around 2.5K rpms. The SMC has only one dial for 1.5k-4k rpms so there inlies my problem.

You dig? Maybe if I had a big fat lazy turbo that spooled at 4k it wouldn't be a problem but as it stands, I'm lean in some areas and rich in others and I've only got one dial to work with for that rpm range.

I think that might be a good idea that I may have to try before jumping into the hondata pool.

Yeah, maybe zip will realize this and give more dials in the future.

one negative outcome of the SMC... one reason why its good to wait and see how it works for everyone.. not just a few. for some... Zip's SMC is a good idea... for others, it might not be. everyones setup is different... remember that.
