Default can i do this to an inline pump?

can i connect the inline pump directly to a 12v source like the battery for a few seconds to check if the pump is working? i connected mine directly to the battery for about 3 sec hoping to hear the motor run but unfortunately i didn't hear anything, is the pump dead?

you need to hookup the ground also to complete the circuit.

ohhhhh, wont it be fine if you put it in a bucket of water and see if it works, just make sure you let that sucker dry for a while, so you wont get any water in your engine.

Testing it like that should be fine. The thing will normally see 12 volts anyway, so it doesn't matter if it gets it from the harness or the battery. Just make sure you have a good solid connection before you pronounce it dead.

will the motor of the pump run without fuel flowing through it? will it damage the pump if i test it without fuel flowing?

Yes, it will run without fuel, no you won't damage it if it's just for a couple seconds, make sure you ground it or else it won't do anything.

ok. thanks guys. i hope the pump isn't broken but it's not working. i bought it used but the owner claims it was only used once and it shows since even the terminals are very clean. i even rolled up a paper and stick it on the pump's body hoping to hear the pump's motor whine but i hear nothing.the positive terminal is not tight since the thread is already damage by me but when i test the terminal there's 13+V so there's power but why is it not working? damn, this is frustrating. no wonder i'm leaning out. anyway, thanks again.
