Default Final Drive and Top Speed

What up, I drive my R quite a bit on the highway; upwards of 80 to 90 mph on those desolate AZ highways so would you recommend that I get a JDM or ATS FD? I want that acceleration that it gives me but I dont wanna be hittin VTEC goin 90MPH and I still want the good MPG that the TypeR gods gave it. What should I do? I know one guy who swapped in GSR 4th and 5ths to get higher gearing on the top end but is there an easier way? What would YOU do?

well, if it was me, i would leave it stock, seeing how the type r gearing is good for our long fast stretchy highways.

At those speeds you should see a 4 to 500 difference in rpm

Another option for you would be to use a lower final drive along with a much taller 5th gear - like the one from an LS. Here is some data that shows an ITR tranny with ATS final and LS 5th gear. Hang on it's long list

The stock bodywork is not stable at the highest speeds in his chart.

I'm sure it was for informational purposes only.
Yes just for information. Actually I built the charts for my D Mod hatchback which has a 9500 rpm rev limit.

In addition to the lack of stability, a stockish ITR would never be able to push the rev's that high due to aerodynamic drag.

Where'd you get that information, just out of curiosity?

My ITR with stock gears will bounce off the limiter in fifth, which is a higher speed than you've indicated.

I don't feel very <u>good</u> doing it, but it'll do it.
Do you have mods done to the motor?

At 8400 rpm with a stock ITR gearbox, the speed will be around 153mph. It will really depend on the tire diameter.

At the time, the car was completely stock.
Wow - that's pretty cool. I was under the impression that the ITR was drag limited - all of the test's I have seen quote top speed between 143-147mph.
