Default 92 Si worth a look?

well in my hunt for the perfect car(for my budget ) i was taking a look at a eh Si...the main purpose of this car is going to be a daily driver and to participate in solo2...i thought the si would be pretty good because of the 4 wheel disc breaks. The only real complant i have of the car is it is kinda slugish, but thats not to big of a hassle.

So all i really want is your opinions on the car for solo2

its a great car for HStock (or STS, DSP, SM) but theyre becoming very hard to find in good shape that arent riced up or have excessive asking prices.

Sheez... You want an Si hatch you gotta come up to Montreal. Bunch of them up here... Here's what a 10 sec search came up with just in Montreal area from one site: (the site this is from is french and i converted km to miles and prices to USD$)

92si, 135K miles, $2800:

92si, 130K miles, $2900:

92si, ???miles, $3000:

92si, 130k miles, $3000:

93si, ???miles, $3000:

92si, ???miles, $3500:

92si, 95k miles, $3600:

93si, 80k miles, $3400:

The hatch was allways WAAY more popular than the coupe here... Of course the cars around here tend to have more rust but are lower mileage and there are plenty of clean examples. And we're not exactly in the prime season for car availability...

One of you more serious performance types needs to buy Bryan's EK B16 w/ goody parts.

I saw it this evening. Still think it's neat.
I would actually love to have that car, but minus all the engine work. I just can't justify driving 12:1 compression back and forth to work.

I'd also love to have one of those captiva blue hatches...

Yeah, bring a '92 Civic Si down here to Florida for me, too. It's the one Si generation I haven't had yet, but it's on my to-do list.

I have a 92 Si, bought it 2 years ago wanting something more reliable than my Beretta GTZ. I can honestly say it is the best thing I have ever purchased, super reliable, fun, competitive.

When I sold my 94 1.5 years ago, I got about 45% of the new, 1993/4 retail price. Mods were GC's, AGX's, 99 Si wheels, 104K mi., and that it still had the OEM exhaust (i.e., no rust). It had a few issues, but for the most part was the cleanest unmolested EG I've seen. How many cars fetch almost 1/2 their new price 7-8 years and 100K mi. after they were bought.

...I mostly miss it in inclement weather, but she was a pretty nice little car for everything else too.

Why bother with an overweight Si? Buy a cheapo CX hatch for pennies then buy a D16 engine and drop it in. You'll get better performance and you can by LCAs with discs for cheap, I think its the way to go, I like mine...

Sure you could, but that would put you into a class with cars that have more than double the horsepower. The point is that the Si could be quite competitive with the stock engine in HS, STS or even DSP. If you gonna swap into a CX and run StreetMod, might as well throw a turboed b-series in there...

I understand that the 89-91 Si is faster. Specifically 89 which was the lightest year.
