Default Teg Driver needs info on a 92 Lude....

Hey guys whats up..... I have a friend that is looking at purchasing a 92 Lude and I am not real familiar with the car. I know it comes in two trims the S (135hp) and Si (160hp) at the wheels ??right?? I do not know which trim the car is cause I am out of town right now and my buddy called me on my cell and the dealer is closed. The car has 92,000 miles on it and is in good shape has a moonroof and is a 5 speed they are asking $4500.

Is there anyway to tell if it is an Si (??spoiler??) without looking under the hood?? Also this is a good car right I know the mileage is somewhat high but my buddy doesnt have alot of cash and needs a car. I told him to wait till friday when I get back home before he goes down there (he doesnt know how to handle sales men like I can...hehe)... Anyways any info on the car you guys can give as to if you think it sounds like a good buy and any probs I should look out for specific to that year or model Lude when I do go look and drive it would be a great help ....

Thanks and I will get back to you guys I am sure after the test drive to tell you all what I thought.

Tanner

i have a 92prelude si, on the si the wheels are like the new civic si 00 rims, juss a litle different, oh and check to see if all 4 wheels have breaks, the s only has 2 front breaks, i think that is pretty much all u can tell if its an s or si

I think $4500 for a 92 Prelude is a good price whether it is an S or Si. Okay fine, maybe not so much on the S, but a 4th gen. Prelude in good condition under $5000 is not bad. The mileage is good I think...not even 100K for a 9 year old car. Average car should be hitting mid-100K in 9 years. I would personally buy it if its an Si. If its an S, I would try to get the price down.

The S model has 14" steel rims, whereas the Si gets 15" rims. That's the only to tell I think from the outside. Under the hood, the engine code for the S is F22A1.

That's not the only way to tell from the outside, or without opening the hood. The Si chassis code is BB2 and the S is BA8. These will be the 4-6th numbers in the VIN. That is the best and most fool proof way I can think of to check to see if it's an S or an Si.

Or in the Drivers side door jamb there should be a label that has some info on it (tire pressure, date of manufacture, etc.) and it should have the designation on there.
