Less gas = Less Hesitation.....HELP!
Alright guys, this Prelude hesitation thing has gone too far! I've had it since back in June and it still hasn't gone away. One thing I noticed is that when I have less gas in my tank, it appears to hide, and comes back when I fill my tank up. The hesitation appears throughout the entire rpm range, but you can actually feel it at about 3k rpms where it kind of "bucks" and you feel the loss of power. What could possibly cause it to go away as the fuel tank becomes more empty? So far I have replaced fuel filter, cap, rotor, plugs, checked plug wires, compression is perfect, o2 sensor, egr is blocked (did it without it blocked also), and I have the coolant bypass which I did way after the problem started, so that can't have anything to do with it. Could my car's fuel pump be taking a dump?....It has 166,000 miles on it currently. So....any suggestions? ANY help is appreciated!
I would say you may have an issue with your fuel injectors or ignition. Does your tach jump or do funny things at the same RPM? If so I would be suspicious of the ignitor. It could also be possible there is some dirt or debris caught tin a fuel injector and causing its spray pattern to be more like droplets. Can you pull the plugs and see if there is a difference in how the plugs look? Try running fuel injector cleaner through the car. Most likely you have already done this, but I am just brainstorming right now.

So when you fill up, you get the hesitation?
Sounds like the crap at the bottom of your fuel tank gets stirred up when you refill.

*Sigh* I know how you feel homey. I get the exact same thing sometimes just out of the blue the car will just fall flat on its fact. Your problem though might well be the fuel pump. If your fuel pump is going then it is uncapable of holding low static fuel pressure which is common when cruising at around 3k RPM in gear. Then when you reach 4 it feels like the car shoots forward a little. I would upgrade the pump first or at least get it checked out and then have your injectors cleaned. I am probably going to do the same thing shortly too and my engine is a 98, but I had similar symptoms when I had my stock CX fuel pump. I know have a 255 walbro.
Oh and question, do you happen to have an external coil??

I will get the pump checked out soon. I am running the internal coil that came with the motor. I tried swapping it, didn't help anything. Thanks for your help guys!
but that would be backwards for a fuel pump. The more fuel the easier the load on the fuel pump. less fuel == harder work on fuel pump. You could possibly be running wayyy to rich by some odd means. Check your intake system also. Filter covered it crap? This would cause a rich condition which would cause symptoms like you described, and my guess would be since the work is harder on the fuel pump with a lower tank, it would be sending less gas sort of correcting the problem. If nothing else, it's something to look into!
I want to trade them for my ODB II injectors if you could. I really want my engine running at max and I dont think these saturated injectors are helping especially since i have my resister pack hooked up.
