Best turbo set up for p72 vtec head on b16a block
B18c1 head with b16a block in a 89 y49 crx si has some bolt ons and a decent tune but want to boost over the winter what’s the best way to ensure the integrity of my vtec head? Better valve springs retainers and cams with arp studs obviously but what else can I do for a daily turbo set up? Any advice would be awesome!
Consider getting forged lower C/R pistons + rods with the arp studs since wanting to go turbo. Having that head on that block has increased the ratio a bit higher than stock so the extra strength of forged will take more abuse. Should look into getting some new oem honda spring type lost motion assemblies to replace the hydraulic style ones if those are in there (not sure if it was only the first gen b16a heads that had them) and leave everything else stock. Don't go boost happy and the setup should last a long time.

If the engine is healthy (good compression, low leakdown numbers) then you could leave everything 100% stock and put a reasonable sized turbo on at about 10PSI, aim for ~300WHP at stock B18C redline (or even lower because B16A cams are weaker than GSR), and with a good tune and supporting mods that should last a very long time. Plenty of power for a fun, lightweight FWD daily as well.
