Default High oil pressure

My car sees 80-90+psi when giving it gas, I have a b20vtec turbo setup, it has lines from the head to catch can and block to catch can, it’s running on 20w50 since I bought it, could the thick *** 20 oil be the reason? Would there be an issue going to 5 or 10? I know it’ll lower oil pressure but I don’t wanna change it if there’s a reason for previous owner using thick and heavy oil. Are there any other things for me to do or look into for lowering oil pressure?

20w50 oil definitely isn't helping. 10w30 is actually the factory recommended oil for this car, you could even go as low as 0w30 (which would be a good thing for colder climates, or potentially in your situation where you're having high pressure issues).

You most likely either have a shimmed or aftermarket oil pump.

ask the previous owner why he was using 20/50
my old b20v was perfectly fine with 10/30

it does have an aftermarket oil pump, only thing stock on the engine are the sleeves. I might switch to 10w30 or 40, I live in Arizona so it’s not always so cold only for a few month

Do 10w30, in your case there's no reason to use the thicker blend.

I'm curious if your aftermarket oil pump is an ACL Orbit, because from what I've been seeing so far this tends to be the trend with them (excessive oil pressure).

im fairly certain it is, same color, same description, it’s the only real aftermarket pump I can find online

I actually just heard from someone a few days ago that ACL has recently revised the design of those oil pumps as well. Seems they may have been aware of the problem.

that’s interesting to hear, I’ll probably try the Moroso oil pump, and go down to a 10 on the oil for my car, if anyone has any other input feel free to say in this thread. Thank you guys.

Also I’m not sure if my car even needs the high volume oil pump, it’s making 330hp on 6psi and redlines at 8200, I feel the pump is a bit overkill?
