Default Oil Pressure after Turbocharging

I used to have AWESOME oil pressure... 5psi above factory spec.

D16A6 @ 3000 70psi(i believe spec is 65psi)

I now am getting somewhere around 40-50psi @ 3000rpm and like 10-20 at 700rpm(idle)

I have a oil leak somewhere in the back of the block, seams to be, where my T is in there for the turbo oil feed and oil pressure gauge.

I also notice that oil pressure at idle is like 80psi until my car warms up.

What gives? I dont like having 45psi @ 3k on a turbocharged engine with out oil squirters, etc.

No one has a good understanding on the oil pressure system on a d-series motor?

I have a similair setup.

If you have a leak at the high pressure point that must be fixed first. Cold engine pressure of 80 is normal.

What size is your feed line to the turbo and what turbo are you using?

I am running a dsm t25 and it naturally has a small input port so no restrictor is necessary. I run a AN4 line, but AN3 would be better.

Give me some details.

You are fine bro, mine does the same thing, on a freshly built motor, what happens is the oil goes through the turbo housing which is 1300F and it is not as thick as what it was before.

My car after cruising for awhile will carry about 50@3000Rpm , and about 55-60@3500 rpm.

And the when it comes to a idle of about 8rpm, i will see about 12-14psi.

Mine would carry great oil pressure also until i tuboed the car, so that i why i think the turbo is really heating the oil up,, maybe an oil cooler would help us....

I have a 14b on my car.

I have a -4an going to the turbo, i think thats what is dropping the oil pressure.

I thought about it and the more places to go and the bigger diameter the line, the more pressure drop you will have. The stock oil pump is made to do 65 psi at 3k. Throw in all the other routing we have and i guess this is the kinda reading you get at the gauge.

Now 2 questions then come up after coming to that conclusion
A. is the guage seeing 45psi and the top/bottom end still seeing good oil pressure, i.e. 65psi, or is it 45psi across the board?

B. If it is 45psi across the board is that acceptable, i would think not, not if you want a long lasting motor.

I will be installing a oil cooler soon, now i have to ask myself what size lines to get on that... I think i am going to install a pump in line with the oil cooler and put like -4 an on it.

Well the way i see it , if the gauge reads 45psi then the top end is only getting 45psi.

But that should be plenty i would think. and the size of the lines and the amount of lines i wouldnt think would matter, seeing as how theey are all tapped off of the main oil feed spot. But i really dont know..

They way i look at it is if you have oil pressur you are doing good, if you dont then you are doing bad ..lol
