Any hope for using GM LS coils with Hondata s300v3?
My dilemma is that I'm considering changing to COP, but I'd like to use GM LS coils instead of k20 coils. Within the past 5 years or so maybe it's become semi-popular to install a small board into obd1 ecus so older setups can take advantage of the COP technology. I'm specifically referencing something like what the Burton Racing COP setup is, which seems to more or less use a board like HondaRulez, or this company I've never heard about but stumbled across yesterday, Apollo Tuning, also using a similar board that's added to the ECU. The board adds a sub-harness from the ECU with power/ground/signal wires going to the coils
I know if I wasn't trying to do this with Hondata I could just buy a t1 cam trigger kit and get rid of my distributor completely, but from what I can see that's not possible with Hondata s300v3. So if I'm stuck relying on the sensors in the distributor for TDC and crank/cam position, the next option would be to install one of the boards like above and just use k20 coils. I'm not interested in the Hondata COP kit as they have a terrible reputation.
So if I did this and used k20 coils (like many people are currently doing), my next question is if I could just use the wiring to trigger GM LS (D585) coils instead. K20 coils have 12v power, ground, and ignition signal (3 wires) while the D585 coils use 12v power, ignition signal, signal ground, and power ground (4 wires). From what I can see the signal ground on the GM coils is for feedback to the ECU to confirm the coil fired, but since the Honda ECU doesn't use that and hence isn't looking for it, I'm assuming the signal ground isn't necessary to actually fire the coil. I'll be testing this theory shortly with the D585 coils

Im about to switch to ls6 coils too.
From my research you just need to ground both grounds to chassis. Thru the head or wherever you like as long as the resistance to the battery is very low

Nothing really - a friend already has the LS D585 coils and a bracket for them left over from an old setup, and I'd just like to avoid spending $300+ for new OEM k20 coils or wasting the money converting to COP just to use cheap chinese k20 coils

Here are the coils with the bracket, it's convenient that each bracket has four coils. It'll most likely still be a while till I buy and wire up one of the COP boards to the ECU and see if it actually works or not

Have you got the ignition wires sorted out? I havent spent time on that yet.
If those are the 4 wire coils i got my connectors from http://customconnectorkits.com. Great customer service from them

You're referencing the spark plug wires right? I was thinking of just ordering a universal spark plug wire set for a 4 cylinder and then making them from that. It would also depend on where I want to mount the coils since I'm not sure if I'd prefer them to be on the firewall (or on top of the intake manifold) with all the wires being equal length, or maybe in a different spot where they'd be unequal.
Appreciate the heads up on that website. Fortunately, my friend gave me the remote coil mount harness he had for these so I don't need any connectors but that website is a great find.
