timing weird issue
I went to replace my dizzy and when I went to time it, i put hondata into set timing, my timing light to 0. and I dont ever see the marks. I spun the engine and it appears that the timing marks are lined up on the cam and crank. I put a white paint mark on the outside of the pulley to make it easier to see but still when i have the dizzy all advanced or retard I dont see the marks. I am on plug wire 1. on the dizzy its the one at 7-8 oclock facing it, correct?

If your timing light is set to "0", you will be shooting for the 16' mark on the crank pulley (the middle one of the three grouped close together). If you are trying to use the TDC or "0" degree mark on the crank pulley, you must set your timing light to 16' advance.
The #1 spark plug wire IS positioned at the 7-8 O'Clock position on the distributor when viewed from the passenger side of the vehicle... assuming that it is connected to the spark plug closest to the cam gear end of the cylinder head.

Yeah. Then it is all set up right. This weekend I am pulling the tire off and seeing if I can see where the mark is with the light. I don't see the TDC or the 3 timing marks currently when I am timing. I am also validating the cam timing because why not. Odd as it starts smooth as silk which doesn't normally happen if timing is too far off

soooooo I-d-10-t error..... I am a moron... but not the only one. google showed someone else that actually had the same issue. . after a bunch of replies he noted that where he had the timing light clamped got noise from the other wires so it flashed so much you couldnt see a line. so I moved it to right next to the plug and POOF. I have timing. now for rain to stop so I can test if I still have the high RPM issue with the new dizzy.
