Need help with using Vtec head
Hi! I have an 01 CRV with manual transmission. I can't find any information on the engine specifics, but it's a 4 cyl with what looks like DOHC, if that helps at all. I was talking to a guy that seems to know a lot about this model, and was going to help with changing the timing belt and adjusting the valves (I'm sure I could figure this part out, but I've become lazy in my old age). He's talking about all the horsepower and torque mods that people do with this car and engine, and said that one of the most relatively inexpensive ways to get 180 or a little more HP, and about as much torque, was to put a Vtec head, head gasket, and an ECU or re-map from another car he mentioned. He also said something about an oil pressure mod that would be needed. I'm sure he mentioned more, but I can't recall what, other than something about a b16a or b16 b head. I was hoping you guys could walk me through this, helping me with what I need to buy, the best way to go about obtaining it as inexpensively as possible (he said it could be done for $1500 or even less. Not sure how true that is), what peripheral mods would be needed, etc.
Thank you very much!!
Thank you very much!!
Good luck, B series VTEC heads are rare as hens teeth these days. As are the ECUs to run it. That stuff was end of production 20! years ago now.
Really not worrh it and will easily take double that budget to do it right.

Thank you! So it's the b16 b head that's needed for the 2.0 liter DOHC engine?(I just googled it, and found out that's the only engine made for this car, which I probably should have done prior to posting). Double $1500? Yikes! I could get an 02 BMW 540i for that,, have 300 HP, and run it till the timing chain guides inevitably break.
