Peckurz's LS VTEC Build Questions to hit 10,000 RPMs. What else do I need?
Alright boys I just picked up a fresh b1 bottom end and an already drilled and plugged PR3-2 head. I already have Supertech valves, valvesprings and retainers. I plan on buying Skunk2 tuner 3 cams, adjustable cam gears, ARP headstuds, Nippon 81mm 12:1 pistons, scat connecting rods, and aftermarket crank girdle. I would like the revs to hit 10k, any other part suggestions? Definitely need info on injectors
Stacks of cash are what you need.
Cost increases exponentially with revs. That's why major racing organizations like IndyCar limit revs in the rules. Manufacturers can't afford to support 16krpm-20krpm engines. 12krpm race engines are still only designed to last ~2500 miles
The only good thing about it being a street build is that it will hardly ever hit 10k in actual use, so it would probably last longer. The bad news is that your 10k race engine will probably be rendered useless on the street by having a 2krpm idle and terrible drivability at the rpms you actually use on the street.
A power goal would suit you much better.

It is illogical for a "fun street car" to have a 10K RPM redline... this target is really hard on parts. Even though revving an engine like you intend to build will sound crazy-rowdy at 10K RPM, it will NOT make usable street power at all. You will be much better served to make the same peak power at a MUCH lower RPM, which also creates much greater torque values across the power band... and infinitely more driveable.
