Default New here! What condition is my VX in?

Hey guys. My name is Charlie, I’m a 24 yr old female from central Cali currently residing in southern Oregon. I’ve been a loooong time lurker here!!

I adore EG hatches. I was completely in love with my first one - a totally stock Tahitian green Canadian VX with 120k miles. I thought myself to drive it and adventured all around the west coast in it. Had it for almost 5 years. I still don’t know what possessed me to trade it for a broken Miata, but yeah. That happened. I just didn’t know what I had…

That’s what started my search for another. I don’t know what it is about these cars - I’m just obsessed. I’m by no means experienced mechanically but I’m not a beginner either.

Anyway, after almost a year of searching every day, and countless sad girl moments of having lost my “baby,” I found another VX!

I’m over the moon. I’ve never been so excited to drive a car and honestly, the sting of having lost my VX is starting to fade. I knew it’d be difficult if not impossible to find another stock VX… and my new one isn’t even close to stock.

Im wondering if you guys can give me any info on what I’ve got going on here! I’ll attach engine bay photos. Engine stamp says d15b2. So from the fourth gens right? Anything I should know about these? Previous owner’s dad is a hobbyist and according to him they rebuilt the transmission (not sure about engine), added the intake (don’t think it’s cold air?) bigger radiator and painted the valve cover. Honestly I love it! The whole cluster in the interior is definitely not stock ( no tachometer ). The wheels are cheesy and I love them. Pretty straight body, needs repaint for sure. Frost white doesn’t have clear coat?

Definitely need to have transmission rebuilt or replaced imo. Bad intake bearing noise when in any gear or neutral. Only stops when clutch is in. Pretty hard to get into first and second (really have to shove the short shifter). What would be the most economical way to go about this? As much as I’d like to I don’t have the setup or tools to be able to rebuild the transmission myself. Might be able to take it to a friends garage if I can get a trans from another hatch. What will fit for the swap?

anyway. Here she is. Is just the right amount of loud too… quiet if you’re trying to be, but loud when I really send it haha. I really have fallen in love and want to make this car my baby. If this was your car where would you start? Main goal is just pretty, for daily street driving and taking it on the backroads on the weekends.

thanks. Charlie Darling

Do you want it to be a VX again? Or you really don't care as long as it is fun?

Sweet!

I am biased, I too have a white hatch that I will never part with.

Hurry up an order any factory body or trim pieces that you might have damage or missing. The EG stuff is very quickly evaporating.

The pocketbook and imagination are the limit to the modifications you can make. Keeping it light weight is really the name of the game with this chassis.

It appears that you have a "Mini-Me" in the engine bay... a D15B2 short block and a VTEC cylinder head... so maybe all that you need is a bit of wiring and a proper ECU and you could have VTEC back !!!

Nice! Damn didn’t realize factory trim pieces are getting rarer. I’m definitely missing a few odds and ends especially in the interior.

Thanks for the pointer! I’ll keep that in mind as I go forward

DUDE WOW.
This is awesome. Valve cover sort of appears to be del sol. So head is maybe Z6? I don’t know anything about ECU’s and I’m excited now to figure this out.
