Hi guys
all my car experts, please help!

i have a 99 crv that stalls (but does not throw codes) and has a hard time starting, BUT it is very random. I originally thought it was fuel issues but i don't think it is. I cannot figure out what the issue is so I will post what I have replaced so far.NO CELS. after the car stalls, the car has to sit for 20-30 minutes then it starts perfect again and idles perfect with no issues. the issue will happen on the interstate at 4000 rpms or literally driving in a parking lot. it is hard to determine when it wants to happen. when the car doesnt want to start, it sounds like everything is wanting to go, starter is strong, but the engine just does turn over or sounds like it wants to. being a fuel or spark issue.

-last year I did spark plugs and wires. havent checked plugs but when the car does start and run, it runs perfect.
-i have checked timing, and timing is perfect
-i replaced the fuel filter, still have the issue
- then replaced the fuel pump. issue didnt go away. but issue happened more. or so i feel. my low level indicator wasnt working so meh on replacing this. works now. lol. fuel pump primes everytime.
-replaced the main relay. issue still persist
-replaced the ignition switch. min was really worn, but issue still persist.i honestly thought this was the issue with honda having a recall on it.
-replaced distributor cap and rotor. still having the issue- could it still be the whole distributor that needs to be replaced???
- i did notice the fuse under the dash was the incorrect fuse for the ignition (7.5a). i pulled the fuse while the car was running and it died like it was driving.no cels, just dead, but the fan stayed on, which when the car stalls, the fan cuts out..kinda. engine just shut of. usually engines wants to try and stay on then stall. i replaced with a 15a fuse. could the wrong fuse size cause this issue???

-AFTER REPLACING ALL THESE PARTS- the car was starting and driving fine. i let the car run for a good 30 min in park while i put the car back together. then when i went inside to relax for an hour, i went to go get food and BOOM issue still occurs and car didnt want to start. i pulled the ignition harness off and tried starting it with a flat head. i did notice that when the harness had tension on it, it then started up.... weird.maybe coincidental

- i have considered replacing the distributor but i dont think it is the dizz because when it does start and it is running, it runs very well, super quiet and no signs of sparking issues. i have considered fuel pressure regulator and possibly evap canister but the idle is too perfect imo. MAYBE have the cat inspected to be clogged... but why would it idle and start perfect???? i have also considered the ect sensor as the issue but my issue happens when the car is hot or the weather is hot out, which tells me it is not the ect sensor and there is no code. i have triggered the cel which makes me think its not the ect and my coolant temp and engine runs perfect, fan isnt on all the time either. do fuse boxes under the dash go bad?

- i have thoughts it could be the IACV, but again, no cels and it stalls when at high rpms. no rpm surges that iac and tps would show if they were bad. the car literally idles and drives perfect

- I DONT THINK its the tps because it doesn't seem like a tps sensor issue or have symptoms. no cels. car has regular throttle response and no weird surges, just stalling.

all of you honda guru's, please help! ive built a ton of b series engines and cannot figure this out.

 

Capacitors in the ECU or ignitor in the distributor.

 

pulled apart the ecu, looks to be in great shape. no signs of burning or damage ... anything.

 

Yeah, sounds like ignition coil. Pretty classic for them to fail when warm (after running for a while) and then be perfectly fine when cool again.

 

after doing more research, i felt like it was the ignitor too, and maybe the coil as well, and with me not knowing how old this dizzy was, i figured it was best to replace the whole thing rather than those two parts. still no cels. just went out and bought a new dizzy, and had my plugs and wires warrantied out to be safe. drives smoother, better throttle response, cleaner i should say. idle seems better, especially with recovery when the ac is on. ill keep you guys posted what happens in the next few days

 

Checking if there any developments on this issue as I have similar issues and have went through the same steps as you

 

so far so good (knock on wood). after replacing the dizzy, issue hasnt occured. starts great in the heat, drives well.
