Default Can’t Enter OBD2 Diagnostic Mode (Issue Shorting Pins 4 and 9)

Hey there fellow Honda-heads! So I’m trying to see if I can reset the ABS light on my ’97 del Sol VTEC and am having problems getting the OBD2 pins 4 and 9 shorted. I’ve tried different size wires and pushing them in different ways but can’t get the ABS light to go off when I turn the key to ACC with my foot on the brake. There might be an issue with my OBD connector. If I use a paperclip, it will just slide all the way through the pin 9 hole – like there is nothing behind it. This may be the way the connector is (nothing in the back with the sides being conductive) but even with a thicker wire that jambs in there, I can’t get it to flash.

Any input / recommendations?

Thank you!

Your Del Sol and some earlier model Civics had a more rudimentary 19P DLC (Data Link Connector). There are no wires connected to DLC terminal no. 4 and 9.

Thank you for the input Tech8! Are you suggesting using the “Service Check Connector (SCC)” or the “Memory Erase Signal (MES) Connector”?

It actually was very early where I am at when I first posted this morning, and I didn't read everything at first. I since edited my original post since I posted the wrong info. regarding the SRS MES connector, when your issue is ABS related.

You can't use either SCC or MES connector to erase an ABS trouble code.

Any input on how I would go about resetting my ABS code?

Looks like there is a ABS DTC erase procedure with the Service Check SCS connector.
