So I was wondering if anyone has a idea how I can fix my speedometer i see all the time if your VSS is bad and you need to replace it the needle will start to jump around from 0-20 but my issue with mine is it works sometimes and sometimes it just doesn’t want to if anyone knows how I can fix it lmk! I’ve all ready changed VSS too

Which year make and model car?

The boards go bad too. More common than the VSS going bad from my experience.

Yup my speedo stopped working, so i opened up the cluster and and pulled out the speedo tach and the circuit board separates very easy and i swapped one from a used cluster from a friend and my speedo and miles started working again.

Didn't say they don't. I simply said the boards seem to be a bit more common in going bad than the VSS in my experience.

Probably because I see way more "bouncy speedo" posts, blown up ECU posts and tach stop working posts than I do my VSS died posts to back up my personal experience.

I have a 1993 Civic Si with the inconsistent speedometer problem. I recently had an engine swap that also replaced the sensor at the transmission. That narrows it down to wiring or something in the instrument cluster. Looking at the parts diagram, I don’t see a circuit board. Many parts are now discontinued. Would I need to buy an old speedometer? Instrument cluster? I like my odometer with 430k miles on it.

You can try this trick in this vid, or what I did was pulled the entire green circuit board out from a used cluster and swapped it in mine. This way you dont have to solder anything just pull out the circuit board it separate's easy and install it on the other one.

That's typically what I do is just a board swap. :D

You wouldn't find the circuit board in the parts diagrams as Honda never sold it as a part. They only sell the full speedometer or the cluster, one of the two or possibly both. I don't remember off hand. But the components in the speedometer were never separate parts.

To get the board you pull it from another speedometer. I usually go to the salvage yard and pull it. They charge me 2-5 bucks for a misc electrical part with no warranty. While the speedo they want 25-40 bucks depending on the yard.
