Default 98 civic ex good ignition coil brand or go external

Thank you for your time first. My 98 civic keeps eating up ignition coils. The resistance on the 1 year old plug wires still read as good as new. As for the plugs themselves, after looking at them, the gaps the stretched to .55 vs the required .44 since having put them in about 2 years ago. Right now I'm having to replace the coil about every 6 months or so. I keep putting in the $30 dollar ones from O Reilly or Autozone since I read that the master pro brand ($50) and the import direct brand ($80)aren't any better quality. I'm thinking the heat from engine itself or the heat from the un shielded exhaust header are eating up the coils. Do any of you know a better quality of coil and where to get it. Or should I do an MSD external coil away from heat source?

get a factory Honda distributor. You DO NOT need an external coil. Waste of money

Get new plugs and a Honda Coil and see if it last any longer.

As far as I know the distributor for the 98 civic ex has been discontinued by Honda. I don't think it's the distributor as the car runs like a champ once the coil is replaced. Though, like I said, the performance is short lived.

I suppose I'll have to try that. But that coil from Honda parts runs $130. Pretty steep unless of course that turns out to be the solution.

get a used Genuine Honda distributor and you'll be good to go. Make sure it's one from a '96-98 Civic
