Default Civic - autmatic transmission issues?

My daughters car starts just fine but while stopping or slowing down it acts like it's in neutral. We shut it off and it drives again. We have changed the filter, plugs, wires, distrubutor and rotor, and the tcc solenoid. It is still doing the same and idles very low. Thanks for any help

Sounds like it might be something to do with the transmission, so I've moved the thread into the transmission/drivetrain forum in hopes better insight can be provided.

Thank you this forum is where I found out to try the tcc solenoid and I also found out about the speed sensor. Just waiting for that part to come in to try.

Transmission is going out. When the clutches wear out, the debris from them clogs the fluid filter. It's actually located inside the transmission case. When you first start it up, it might run for a mile or two while the debris starts to collect up in the filter and clog up. It finally clogs completely, the transmission is starved of fluid, and then it wont transfer power. Don't keep running it, it will just make the situation inside the transmission worse. It needs new clutches, probably steels, and the updated larger capacity transmission fluid filter at a minimum. Parts are 200 bucks for all of that, and all of the gaskets and seals, but the labor involved in removing, rebuilding, and reinstalling is what will get you. Take your chances with a junkyard unit (I've had good luck, but I sold the car so I don't know how it worked long term), or buy a rebuilt one. Ozmotive on ebay is very highly regarded. ALL THEY DO is rebuild honda and acura transmissions, they will update all of the parts inside to fix the things that make it fail too quickly. Check them out, give them a call they will at least point you in the right direction. https://ozmotive.com/ 916-369-0809

Is this a problem for an automatic? I'm just asking because I did not know they had clutches. Thank you for the site and number

Yep, sure does. There are 12 small 6" diameter clutches in there, with steel rings in between them. Eventually they wear out, but the problem is accelerated in your transmission because the fluid isn't circulated enough to cool it down. A good rebuilder will also put in a different aftermarket valve that will ultimately solve this issue.

Old vs. New, larger filter. Has twice the capacity, old one was farirly gunked up. The screen in there is really, really fine.
