Icon6 Vertical Intercooler and piping for 700whp

I will be shooting for 700+ whp in my EP3 and I am having difficulty choosing an intercooler.
Also, is 3" piping necessary at that power level?
I only ask that because there are a few intercoolers that have 2.5" inlet and outlet but are rated for 800 horsepower.

https://www.speedfactoryracing.net/s...ow-intercooler
Core size is 27"x6"x3"
2.5" inlet and outlet
Rated for 800hp

https://www.treadstoneperformance.co...1000hp/p104567
  • Core Size 25.00" X 6.00" X 3.50"
  • 3.00" Inlet/Outlet
  • Rated for 1000hp
Would the treadstone be too much for me or is this a good choice?

https://sheepeyrace.com/products/she...ow-intercooler
same specs as the Speedfactory intercooler

These are my top 3 choices right now with the treadstone slightly in the lead.

Thanks in advance!

Also have a look at KLM, they have some nice intercoolers too. I believe in 3" piping at your target power level. The Treadstone cores are allegedly not as efficient as some of the others but are well priced.
A good high-efficiency 3" core will keep things nice and simple.

Thanks man! Always helping out.
If 3" piping is what I should use why are some of the intercoolers using 2.5" inlets and outlets? Wouldn't that be a bottleneck in the system if I'm using 3" piping?

I'm liking the KLM now. I don't see any core specs but they use vibrant cores, so that's good.

Not really. At 700whp or so you're still under Mach 3 in air speed, more than enough for 2.5 pulling and 700whp.

In saying this, is 2.5" piping sufficient or should I still go with 3" but not worry if the intercooler has 2.5" inlet and outlet?

2.5" is fine for your needs. 3" makes fitment VERY complicated more than necessary on some chassis.

Have you done your homework on vertical vs horizonal intercoolers?

I honestly haven't. For my chassis (EP3) I need a same side inlet and outlet intercooler so my choices are limited. Most intercoolers this style and vertical.
