Default Walker 82596

Anyone use this cat for their civic ex 97?? I live in cali and my cat went bad due to head gaskets (which been fixed of course) just feel like that what finished my cat off i have no codes or anything but it wont pass smog due to high HC, smog is due. Don't know if i should take the hit and buy a magnaflow carb, i seen this cat for a good price though. The cat is also 17inch. when oem states 16.50. Trying to see if anyone else encountered this dilemma.

Default New cat brand to pass California smog

What’s a good catalyst converter brand I can use I prefer not use a universal, I found a direct fit for my civic 97 ex for 300 dollars, carb, and gasket from walker thanks

Does the engine idle at spec rpms?

Any engine performance problems?

Have checked the ignition timing with a timing gun?

How old are the distributor cap, rotor, and plug wires?

NGK spark plugs that are properly gapped?

nope the engine is golden the timing belt squeaks little bit but usually on a cold morning since I work at 5 am it starts right up. Yeah I’m gonna see if my plugs are properly gapped I’m pretty sure they were I checked them before putting them in maybe I didn’t tighten a plug right? The distributor is completely new as well as wires since my distributor recently went out like over month ago. Code said distributor But it was actually my wire giving misfires

Also the ac compressor squeaks a little when use it on a cold engine and when I accelerate hard. I was gonna fix this during the wintertime when it wasn’t as hot

Walker is a decent brand, not the cheapest and is predominantly exhaust related. I believe it's a decent product and as long as the one you are buying is marked as CARB compliant, then you really should be just fine with it. This is assuming it's your cat that is the problem.

It's unclear that your cat is the source of your emissions problem. The cat reduces both HC and NOx emissions, but only your HC levels failed. I mention this because a new cat will die a quick death if your engine is misfiring or running rich.

The engine has 180k miles and the cat was the original with the car, I had a blown head gasket a while back not anymore I believe it could be the cats honeycomb just messed up only way is take the cat out and check :/ I used 87 gas if that has to do with anything. I’m just gonna wing it probably and get the walker product
