Hi all,
Just removed my cylinder head for the first time. I cleaned the mating surface on the block, and noticed scuffing on many spots. I attached some images of it, and would love for a veteran to weigh in on the severity. The engine is a D15B1 (Civic 3D STD).
Thanks in advance!
Looks kind of normal for those old style of head gaskets.
Also looks like you have been leaking a lot of oil, for a long time.
Yeah, every cylinder was black from carbon deposits, I could barely manage to get it to this level lol.
I think this might be the first time someone’s opened up this engine since it left the factory, 180,000 miles ago.
Could a new head-gasket solve the oil leak, you think?
Looks like the gasket came off pretty clean.
maybe some CRC head gasket remover spray will clean off the remaining residue or a Roloc bristle thing for a drill.
since you have the head off, you should clean them up and do a flatness check to see if you need any machining.
the front of the engine look like it’s painted wrinkle black! So much caked on oil from a leaking valve cover most likely
