Default Question regarding D series head milling on the cylinder head

Hi I was woundering if it would be ok to mill a y8 head .040. See I'm doing a d16a6/y8 mini me build and I'm gonna be using std lenght rods and vitara piston witch would yield a 7.84:1 but if I mill the head .040 it will bump it up to 8.5:1 witch is perfect. I know I can use the custom lenght p2p0 rods or speed factory but this is a budget build and wanna see how much power I can make for 1000$ so I will be useing d16a6 maxpeeding rods and vitara pistons, acl oil pump, A y8 head supertech valve springs, blox turbo cam, skunk 2 manifold since I have the block and head the rest will cost around 1000$

That's a whole millimeter off the surface. I don't recall directly offhand what the compression height is on vitara.
I think it's only half a mm different (?)

Try it... and be sure to let us know when your engine jumps mechanical time because you will be unable to properly tension the belt.

I've heard of folks decking a huge chunk off the block or head to make this work, but as stated you may have timing/tensioning issues, and you're going to essentially ruin a block or head for a set of cast pistons? Nah...either buy the long rods, or even better, buy some forged pistons and run regular length rods.

Well I'm still gonna use the vitara but mill the head .030 and use.a y8 2 layer head gasket because I still wanna see how much power I can make with 1000$ and how much money it takes to run low 11s hi 10s. Now I just need to figure out timing . So any ideas

Brother i dont think the custom length rods are a big investment over maxspeeding rods.
Custom length rods are +1 compression ratio if i remember correct. You will be around 7.5:1 and custom length raise that to 8.5:1.
8.5:1 is acceptable. 7.5:1 will kill your mpg and power. At the end youll need a reliable adjustable timing gear and thats extra cost too.

Think I paid 150 or 160 USD for my TruTime gear.

I think the VX (Z1) timing belt is 103 tooth, just a touch tighter than the Si (Z6) 104 tooth and 3 teeth tighter than the B7 belt which is 106 tooth. This is all 5th gen specs 92-95.

I don't know the teeth count on the 6th gen 1.6L motors.
