Default mixed D series parts...

ok im about to build a motor, i have a great condition d16y7 block and crank, and want to put in a set of eagle rods and srp pistons...
I have the eagle d16 rods now, but SRP shows diff parts #s for the vtec and non vtec pistons. does it really make a diff? I will be putting a d16z6 head on the block though. was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction....thanks!

If you are using a z6 head, then I would look into z6 pistons. any d-series pistons should fit in the block. The issue will be what head you put on. Not all d-series heads have the same sized combustion chamber. For example, some 9.5:1 pistons for a y8 head will probably yield somewhere around 9:1 with a z6 head. And some 9.5:1 pistons for a z6 head will probably yield around 10:1 with a y8 head.

thanks
ill definitely be going with d16z6 pistons.

i was also concerned about valve reliefs as well, since i had thought the vtec head had slightly larger valves as well.

I believe the Y7 Y8 motors have a different piston to deck height which affects the overall C/R. I am using 10.5:1 D16Y8 pistons in my Z6 motor and they yield 9.51:1 compression.
