Default B16a2

Hi there

I have a b16a2 with no vtec pressure switch. Car has now a hondata p28 ecu but won’t go into vtec

do I need to bypass a4 (vtec solenoid) and d6 (vtec pressure switch) for this to work?

thanks

Why don't you just put the pressure switch in? The p28 has vtec programmed into it. Instead of bypassing anything, just put what needs to belong there.

My solenoid doesn’t actually have a bit for the pressure switch as it’s a later b16a2. Just found out I need to by pass a4 and d6 pins on my ecu, thanks for the reply though

Why do wiring changes when you can disable the VTEC pressure switch in the Hondata program ?

I was thinking that the Y8 VTEC assemblies do not bolt up to the B series head... only the Z6 assembly. Am I right or am I having an "old guy" moment ?!?

You may be correct, and I have no reason to doubt you.

My goal was just to inform the OP that purchasing a used VTEC solenoid that fits his B16a2 engine would be a quick and inexpensive solution.

The casting does have the hole and O-ring recess... it just isn't drilled and tapped. You can do this and add the VTEC pressure switch, OR you can find either a "B" series or "D" series USDM VTEC assembly at your local "Pull-A-Part" or online and install that so everything plugs in. I suspect your issues are bigger than you think. Disabling the VTP in the Hondata s300 program should make things work as normal, yet you say it doesn't. So, check the solenoid, check the ECU VTEC output, engine oil pressure, make sure the pan isn't caved in on the pick-up, etc to solve the issue.

Agreed. I am not sure what a pressure switch costs, but as I stated above, the OP can also modify the JDM assembly to work like a USDM one. It is telling that the engine is stamped like a USDM B16A (with the "2" suffix) instead of a generic B16A like the JDM/EDM markets, yet has the non-US VTEC assembly. I wonder if there has been a head swap at some point... and maybe it came from a Frankenstein application with the VTEC oil feed port sealed up and this is why it isn't working.

Things that make you go "Hmmmmmmm".
