d16z6 swap won't crank but can jump starter
Hey everyone, pulled out my b16 swap and threw in my freshly built d16 vitara. I'm having a problem where the car doesn't want to crank over at all. Fuel pump primes and everything but when I turn the key to crank it just doesn't do anything except I can hear the starter click. Almost like when you don't push in the clutch when trying to start it. The car is originally auto but I converted it to manual with the b16 and everything worked so I know it's nothing to do with the wiring side of that. So I took a wire and jumped the starter to test it from the battery to the spade on the starter and sure enough it cranks. So there's a problem somewhere between ignition and starter I think? Any ideas what it might be? All grounds have been checked and cleaned, everything seems to be working except the signal to the starter. Thanks guys! Been dying to get this thing started.
get the multi-meter out and start checking from the key switch to the starter solenoid, or vise versa which ever direction suits you. a good initial check though is the clutch pedal switch. the little plastic/rubber stopper pads get brittle with age and tend to crumble and split apart. you should be able to reach up under the dash and feel if it's missing. also a good sign that's the problem if the broken pieces are on the floor...
been there.
been there.
I actually never wired up the clutch safety switch when I did the manual conversion for the b16. I left the shift solenoid in park and never had any issues with it starting.
