Default 1st and reverse

I have seen similar posts both here and elsewhere describing my symptoms, but no resolution posted. Car is a 2002 accord ex with 245000 miles with a f23a1 engine and mcja transmission. I am not a transmission “dummy” but have no experience and no reference material on this one. The most noticeable and troubling symptom is delayed 2-1 downshift. After coming to a stop, 1st gear engages with a bang. From park, 1st and reverse are delayed and engage harshly. A test drive tells me I don’t have any clutch slippage or torque converter problems. It pulls well and the only “flare” is when the engine idles up in preparation for a gear that is delayed. Once in gear, there is no slip. So this makes me think control problem. I went thru all the solenoids (removed, cleaned and tested). I am thinking a problem like sticking valve. Have I missed anything that can be done externally? Are the valve bodies difficult to clean/repair? For the transmission guys in the group... is it worth pulling and trying to fix? Has anyone had good/bad luck with the Japanese imports such as JDM?

Did you fix the PCM 1607 trouble code yet?

So I found out my PCM is not repairable. What do people usually do in this case? I have see used ones available, but I have also seen them available as sets with the immobilized, key and pcm. Is this a bad idea?

So now the PCM is fixed. Replaced the PCM, drove the car, and at the end of the test drive, 2 of the monitors still need to be reset (O2 sensor and catalyst).

all transmission symptoms are the same. Anyone with further information?
