Default Brake System Concerns

First, I apologize if this is in the wrong place but I need help finding the right solution so history doesn't repeat itself. I know the market is ever changing so I'm planning out what to do before I buy a Civic or Del Sol in a few months

I've owned a 93 Del Sol SI, 99 Civic EX couple and 99 Integra GSR and the one problem I always had, especially in heavy traffic or when shooting the back roads was rapid brake wear and in 2 cases of OEM brakes, overheating the rotors to the point of turning the rears blue and the fronts black and cracking/crumbling the pads. I've tried Brembo rotors and Akebono composite pads with decent results.

make sure your guide pins are lube
make sure your wheel bearings aren't fucked
make sure you bleed your brakes properly and in order

Makes good sense. Is simply upgrading to better pads and rotors all I need or is it worth it to step up to a larger, higher capacity system? This I ask not just for durability and consistency but also because my 2 1/2yo daughter will sometimes be with me.
