Suspension issue unknown
Ok so I really need some pointers on what to start with when it comes to my suspension. When I turn left I hear a popping/clunking noise. So most people assume axle but I’m almost certain it’s not the axle. There is no shake or movement in my steering wheel and not shake or movement to my wheel when it’s jacked up off the ground. when your just sitting there idling and not moving and turn the wheels you don’t here the pop. Changed the inner tire rod end and that didn’t change anything almost think it could be the rack and pinion but there’s no movement to that either. Also my power steering fluid is contaminated and and smells really really bad. And sometimes I can smell it when driving. This is on a 1994 Honda Accord Lx 5sp
Usually that is the outer CV joint going bad.
A worn outer CV will not cause a shake or movement in the steering. It will just make noise. Failed inner joints are the usual cause of vibrations.
Ball joints locate and allow the knuckle to pivot.
Tierods rotate the knuckle
Wheel bearing supports the weight of the car(through the wheel and shock assembly)
Axles only transmit power to the wheels. You will only notice noise normally while driving as the axle is loaded between the wheel(traction) and transmission(power) as the axle is in the middle.
If it only occurs when turning then it is the outer joint. If it occurs all the time, then it is the inner joint.
Faulty axle is usually opposite of the turning direction because the outer wheel is loaded more in a turn, much easier for a worn CV to bind which causes the clicking/popping sounds.
