Passing smog after engine rebuild
I recently had to rebuild my d15b7 engine after my car was stolen and the person driving managed to murder my engine. I was never able to pass the smog test since buying the car and im hoping now that the engine has been rebuilt that i should pass the smog test after breaking it in. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
There is nothing you can do prior to going to SMOG unless you have a CEL which would need to be fixed.
If you want to shotgun a preemptive measure change the 02 sensors and the sparkplugs and fuel filter.

Move out of California is my advice
Otherwise to my knowledge you can fail a smog from a dirty or leaking fuel injector. There is no way to know unless you talk to a certified inspector that can test your cars emission level

I paid 1,600 for a complete engine ovehaul. New pistons, valves, seals, lifters, etc .
The car sounds beautiful now and i can feel the power it didnt have before it died on me. The next step is breaking in the engine , changing the oil and hoping that i can pass the smog without having to go to "a guy" .
Im really hoping i wont have to move out of state just to drive my car without the paranoia of being pulled over. I get pulled over all the time even with a fully registered vehicle and valid license because of the way i look. I love my car and i know youre not supposed to get attached to cars but its too late for me. Ill leave my wife before i part ways with my car.
I would go get it done, there's no teling what could be wrong. You can check your ignition but other than that you'll have to wait until they put the smog machine on.

he needs to set ignition timings make sure it is good before smog but other than that it should pass unless the cat is bad
Most of the parts that are important for smog are outside the engine and won't be replaced when the engine is rebuilt. Like others said, you need to get the test numbers to see how to approach the problem. Runs good with no CEL but high levels of all three pollutants is often the converter being worn out or even hollowed out by a previous owner.
If your CAT is working fine and all your O2 sensors are reading correctly, you'll be fine.
