Interesting heating phenomenon/issue -del Sol 95'
hi!
I wonder if someone can point me to the right direction with my small heating issue. (I searched but didn't really find anything that's like this)
I have an EG2 with the original B16 and sometimes I experience overheating while standing in traffic just after a short while - let's say ~5 mins. BUT what's interesting to me is that as soon as I start moving and freely move no more than 100 meters my temp gauge immediately starts deep diving back to normal. This doesn't make much sense to me, surely water doesn't cool down 20+ Celsius in a couple seconds... Also, in these cases if I'm standing and turn on the heating it doesn't start blowing the hot air through the vents until I move a bit. What could this be? The only modification I have is a 1/2 Mishimoto radiator but I still have the OEM fan (which does turn on).
As soon as winter comes I put the car away and I plan to do a big maintenance before next season which will include the water pump/thermostat among other things but still I would like to know what could be causing this.
cheers!

A simple lack of coolant will cause both of those symptoms. When the engine is completely cold, check in the radiator it should be full to the top. If not, repeat the filling and air bleeding procedure.
If the radiator won't stay full consider a slow leak in the head gasket, bad radiator cap, or leak in the hose from the radiator to the expansion tank.

Thanks for the replies, I did check and indeed, coolant was not up to the the base of the filler neck - I do see coolant, but 100-200 ml is missing. Tomorrow I'll go home where I have some OEM coolant and will refill/rebleed based on the manual's instructions.
Yes, I did verify the fan turn on.
