Iv got a b18c5 block, been sitting around for years, well unfortunately some parts got separated and I'm missing the original main caps

Iv been reading around and some say, get new caps have line honed and be good
Some say they don't trust it and it won't be good


So what's the real word, can I use some main caps from another motor, because it doesn't look like I can buy these new, and then take the block to a good machine shop and they can line hone it and be good ? Is there a better solution? I mean I see 2j's with obviously not original billet mains and they are fine

So what's up can I save my block? Id really like to use it, it's out of my old itr

There are distinct issues with replacement main caps and a line hone. The first is moving the centerline of the crankshaft by 1 to 4 thousandths up in the block. This move changes the piston-to-deck clearance, increases the chances of oil pump failure due to crank side loading, changes the relationship between cam and crank TDC by retarding the cams, and making it difficult to properly tension the timing belt.

This process is certainly possible... and depending on who you ask, acceptable. My opinion would be to get another block. Regardless of the path you choose, you now have information that helps you to decide based on facts and not simply my opinion.
