Default Ratt731 needs Help with choosing a turbocharger for B18B 450whp on 93 octane

Hey everyone, i am just getting back into the car scene after taking about 5 years to accomplish other things in my life. Decided it was time to enjoy building another car. Picked up a 91 integra ls that the previous owner had already did some work on. Ive never had experience with the non vtec platform but My goal for the car is 450whp, car will basically be a street car with the possibility of seeing a track 1 or 2 times a year. This is not a daily. The Car had an ebay turbo setup on it, that im in the process of removing and installing new parts. The car is a straight ls with some work done to it. Id like to stick with just the ls for now. And build an lsvtec set up while i enjoy the car. Currently whats in the car

Block is standard bore, stock sleeves, has weisco pistons, eagle rods, acl bearings, arp headstuds. Head has crower titanium springs and retainers, Vms adjustable cam gears, stock cams. Skunk 2 pro manifold, aem fuel rail and adjustable regulator, 850cc injectors, walbro 255, hondata s300, speedfactory lsd.

In place of the Ebay turbo kit ive so far gathered. Large Front mount ic with dual backdoor 3", tial q 50mm bov, tial 44mm wg, ramhorn mani t3 flange, 2.5" 1 pc ic piping on each side.

So now im at the point of choosing a turbo. Ive been looking through threads for a couple weeks and with the amount of different choices ive seen im unsure of what to get. Id like to stay under 1000 for my budget but will consider going a little over. Want something streetable without a ton of lag if possible. Any help or pointing me toward the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Also considering going to 1000cc injectors, a 70mm tb, and cams if that will help get me to my goal of 450whp on 93 pump. Also how high should i beable to carry the ls out in the rpm range with whats done. Currently redlines at 6800.

With the spring/retainer combo, you should be able to carry RPM til your stock cams stop making any power..
Garrett GTW3476 will do well, PTE 5858, they'll get ya to 450 pretty easy while remaining in your price range while playing nice on the street. I'm running the 3476 on a D-series setup and it does well on it. Builds boost beginning around 3400 and full boost by 5500, 21psi. Maxwellmercer here has experience with the 5858.

A JB turbo in the 55-58mm range, journal bearing would suit your build/budget goals fairly well. I'd definitely suggest looking into a set of cams (BC Stg2 would work out well) and turning the car to 8-8500rpm w/ a pair of GE cam gears.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions. I figured journal bearing would be my only choice in my price range. Im curious about the newer borg warner 252sxe turbo i saw agp offers it in t3. Does anyone have experience with this turbo? Also what ar would everyone suggest? Usually .63 or .82 for most turbos ive seen.

The S252 SX-E is definitely in the correct range of turbo. That and the GTW3476 are both strong contenders. I would say the 0.63 A/R for either would be the correct size to balance spool and power. You want something in the 55 lb/min flow range.
Also consider changing out the stock cams to something larger - as the stock B18A/B cams will be your first restriction and make the turbo work a lot harder to hit your power target.

GoAutoworks has given some solid input above

Thanks again. Looks like i will be ordering up some crower stage 2 turbo cams. The 252 sxe is right on at the flow rate mentioned of 55lbs/min. I havent saw really any info about the sxe turbos on other honda builds though. The 257sxe is rated 65lbs/min and is at the same price. I can get a decent deal on bw turbos is why i am leaning toward them. But if the mentioned gtw3476 is a better option then I'd go with that. I was thrown off on the gtw3476 though because I saw on full races site they have it listed at 71lbs/min. Just has me wondering if the 252 or 257 would be better choice then. Or if the flow rate doesnt matter as much as i am thinking.

I dont know the pr3 head prices there but id consider getting a full VTEC head.
Imo its better value for money than buying cams for non-vtec head.
A pr3 head with gsr cams will perform better and will require less boost. Remember you are on stock sleeves .
.63 STC Hunter from theshodan here with .63 will work perfect too.

If you keeping the non-VTEC head and/or sticking to your 450whp goal then the S252 SX-E would be good enough (provided you upgrade cams). If you plan on increasing your power goal at some stage or switching to a VTEC head then the S257 SX-E will give you more room to grow and take advantage of the VTEC head's increased flow.

What Balor is saying about the stock sleeve limitation is that a more efficient engine and larger turbo will require less boost to make the target power and therefore cylinder pressure can be kept lower. Cylinder pressure is what breaks the stock sleeves and not a fixed horsepower number - that is why some cars blow stock sleeves at 300whp and others survive at 500+ whp.

The compressor map of the 3476. This thing REALLY wakes up at 20psi, but you can run it lower. I'm at 21psi and while not yet dynoed, feel very confident I'm at or JUST over 400. And again, I'm D-series. With a B, i can only imagine it would operate even better.

Im in love with that map too. I really hoped we can do a t350/stg5 turbine wheel with it but well we cant without going out of normal price target for that turbo.
