crankshaft swap ej8 97 civic questions
I've heard that the d16y7/8 crank is known for spinning main bearings, but not sure if anyone has tried the ones you buy from rock auto. can't seem to get info on their oil holes, just the usual journal and neck specs. but wondering if these can withstand higher horsepower without doing the same as the stock, unless these are basically stock cranks. also not sure which of crankshaft supply or enginetech are a better choice, but either way trying to stick with the same stroke length; as apposed to buying one from say summit racing that has either a stroke length a bit under or slightly over. furthermore, if anyone knows of a site that might actually sell an aftermarket crank for a d16 with the stock stroke length, that, would further help me on my quest.
say I have a custom built crank, how do I know how to follow the z6 specifications? would really help if I understood how the oil passages worked; the block and head oil passage system, sure, but not specifically the crank. perhaps even a custom oil jet for the journals? I'm definitely no engineer by any means, I like to float ideas here and there, but not really sure how to handle conquering this weak point.
I don't remember for sure but I thought someone mentioned the specs of the Y8 and the Z6 are the same. If that is the case you could order the Z6 replacement crank and get the dual oil holes per journal and that would fix the weak point.
