1996 RS, no major accidents.

I have some sort of ghost SRS light. My SRS light will come on for days at a time.

There is no code--when i jump the yellow SRS plug under the driver side dash, i get the "normal operation" blinks: 1 long 6 second blink, off, then light comes back on and stays on. There are no diagnostic codes.

It will clear just fine, but then sometimes it comes back on the next time i start my car (usually 1 hr later) or it stays off for the entire day. I can clear it every day, and it may or may not stay cleared the entire day, but always comes back on the next day. It will do this for a week, then be SRS light free for a couple weeks. Then come back on for a week, etc.

Anyone ever had this problem? I am going to try to borrow a SRS scanner to see if any codes come up, but not sure if they will.

Notes:
1. I had a SRS unit malfunction 8 months ago on the original SRS unit, so i replaced it with a refurbished eBay SRS unit and it's been working fine until now. When i had the SRS unit malfunction it gave me the code for SRS unit malfunction and the SRS light would not clear. Now i have a SRS light that has NO code and WILL clear, so i don't think it's the same issue.

2. I have an aftermarket steering wheel and i've been using a 2 ohm resistor to keep the SRS light off. It's been working for the past 4+ months. I wonder if i should try another resistor, maybe this one is failing intermittently? But then you'd think i'd be getting a code for the drive side airbag...and i'm not.

 

well...you're missing an SRS, got a hack job to spoof an airbag is there. Think the thing to do is make sure that resistor is doing its job or try another.
