I picked up a tsx with a clunking, expecting it to be a simple axle swap. The sound was that of a washing machine on an uneven load, very obnoxious. The rate and volume increased with speed, in all gears, and could faintly be heard while coasting in neutral. After replacing both cv axles and one hub, the noise could still be heard as I backed out of the driveway. I began to pull it back in when suddenly none of my gears worked and my clutch could be dumped while the engine was still on. ANYone heard of anything like this?
Previous owner claimed to have recently installed a new oe spec clutch. The bit was near gone, and the underlying cause of my clunking was my final drive and countershaft! The man must have beat the hell out of the thing. Probably explains the wear on my 2nd gear.
