2001 Civic with SRS light
My 2001 Civic recently turned on its SRS light. I used an OBDII scanner and read out a P1298 code. Apparently that's a bad ELD. I tried resetting the code but it came back immediately.
I replaced the ELD and the code went away without me even having to reset it. Repeatedly reading out the codes yields zero codes every time.
But SRS light is still on.
Any suggestions?

An OBD scanner will not read srs codes. The code you read was a malfunction code

To read SRS codes, the easiest way is to insert two paper clips into the 4 and 9 positions of your underdash OBD interface, connect them, turn ignition key to II position and then count the blinks of your srs light. Here is info for how to do it

Just do a search for how to read SRS codes. There have been extensive threads written for how to do so both here and in an RSX forum. I posted a link in a reply earlier with a how to and a list of the codes and how to decipher them, but somehow that got my comment sidelined awaiting moderation. Its easy to do and requires no special equipment other than two paperclips.

It'll either be approved by a moderator or eventually appear after your Trial User status expires. (usually within a couple weeks after joining)
Yeah, I have seen that happen on other forums. Usually, a new member cannot post links or pics so as to cut down on spam accounts. Anyhow my latest answer did appear. No point leaving a thread hanging with wrong information. The simple fact is you do not need a special scanner to read SRS codes on a 7th gen Honda Civic, and the how-to info is available in this very forum.
