Yeah but a timing light does not have the ability to kill your engine. You have other issues going on there.

It’s been running until the gun touched it and it actually started to idle better when after i adjusted timing

I thought you just said your car won't start after you hooked up the timing gun?
How does it idle better now that you adjusted timing and you use a timing gun to adjust timing.?

That’s literally impossible.

I had the car on it’s been starting up fine. Just the idle has been a little off. So today I bought a timing gun. Set the timing by adjusting the distributor. Filed a little better then died. I won’t start anymore

So what don’t you have, fuel, air, spark?

Did you accidentally disconnect a plug wire with the engine running?

Nothing fell off when I was using the timing light but I was shocking myself pretty good every time I went to adjust the distributor so I grabbed a rubber mallet and tapped on the top of it where the mounting bolt is to mount it forward and back

You probably blew the coil. Replacing it and the plug wires is likely to fix the problem.

It started this mornin. I wish I would have left the timing where I had it after adjusting it. I tilted it back and forth again after it died and didn’t want to start attempting to get it to start again. So as it is rn it’s not spot on but it runs so hopefully it will get me to the shop where I made an appointment to leave it. That’s what I was thinking that it was the coil so I went to check for spark this morning and It fired up. This is the first time my history of me being on this forum where I came here for help then went to my car and it turned on lmao thanks y’all

Your incompetence killed your engine, not the timing gun.

Ok... I'll try to be a little helpful now that you explained the scenario.
Your updated replies change the story to "used timing gun and now engine won't start".

did you disable the electronic timing advance before setting timing with the gun?
OR
did you just hook up the gun and try to adjust?

Don’t ignore this^

It’s telling you what the problem is.

Next check whether the thermostat ground is loose or corroded.

Also, if the plug wires are old, replace them.

Yes on the paper clip in the blue connector.

So feed back that I got was possibly the pump isn’t reaching all the way down or put more gas in it. It was low. I put gas in it and it wasn’t violently jerking when I accelerated anymore. I thought it was a wiring thing when I got to 1900rpm. He checked all wires. All good he said. On my way home I was still having to watch the idle so it didn’t die. He also said my cat is clogged and broken inside. I went to the muffler shop rn and fixed that it’s a lot better. He also said if that doesn’t help. Get the best spark plugs I can. I have those ngks that are labeled under the hood but he said I should get even better ones. He did a leak down test on the cylinders. Some odd stuff was happening but he said it might get better with more mileage on the fresh rebuild. There’s about 20 miles on it as of now. I still don’t know what really happened with the timing gun. Like I said the next morning it started up lol Before I started it that morning. I put the distributors placement somewhere in the middle then tightened the bolts and when we checked it at the shop it was dead on lol
