ignition timing questions
ignition timing is one of the crucial parts to consider when tuning our motors. today i thought i should check my timing again on my B16 and it was in stock spec (ecu paper-clipped, 16deg, red mark, 0 on dial), but i know i've adjusted the idle screw a few months back and that DOES affect timing!!
few questions to consider though, if we adjust the idle screw, how will we know the real timing then? i'll try my best explaining this..it's confusing. Let's say ignition timing is in specs right now. I adjust the idle screw a 1/4 this way. timing is then off! then you try to advance or retard it some....will this be same as before?

Re: ignition timing questions (handa)
This is news to me. I never heard of the idle screw effecting timing. Question for you though, was this a digital timing gun or a timing light? If its a timing light it would show that its effected because the idle changes but infact it might not be. I used a timing light for the longest time, im getting sick of it because its never accurate, especially with rebuilt distributors, theres no way you could get an accurate reading with it.
Try using a digital timing gun and let us know. Im thinking of picking up a digital timing gun soon, if i do and you still havent done this then ill do it and see.

Re: ignition timing questions (Luserkid)
why mess around with some crazy theory of adjusting the idle screw to effect timing ? I haven't heard of it either.
Just do it the way you're supposed to then you don't have to worry. It's easy and it takes 10 minutes.
