Default Brake issues with 2017 Type R after track sessions.

I have had my 2017 Type R on the track three times for a total of 200 miles. The stock pads have scoured the rotors and have “melted“. Has anybody else experienced this problem? What is the solution for getting more longevity out of the brakes

When you come into the pits after a session are you just parking your car and not moving it? Trick I have found is to roll the car 3-4 times after a session to keep the pads from sitting on the same part of the rotor while they're at maximum hotness. Have only done 2 track days with mine but a ton of spirited driving and autocross and mine are holding up ok. only 7300ish miles though.

Those giro disc 2 piece rotors are on the top of my to do list when brakes need servicing.

buy pads meant for the track.. those oem pads are not real road course pads

never use street pads on the track, simple as that. The rotors will be sufficient, but oem pads don't have the temp range needed for dedicated track use. Many owners will swap pads between street and the track when they take their cars to the track. Lots of choices out there.

^^^ either of you two tracked a CTR? They hold up surprisingly well but the rotors tend to crack after 2-3 events because of the drilled rotors. Otherwise the pads/ rotors actually hold up amazing.

I have not had the pleasure of driving one yet, but it is quite simple in that Honda can't put race spec brake pads on a street car. The temp range of brake pads are vastly different between street and track use, that's why the OP is melting pads. No one has developed a brake pad that works perfectly on the street and hard use at a track, hence why dedicated racers who daily drive their cars will swap pads on track day.

I made no comment about the rotors.

You definitely can and they’ll work just fine, are upgraded pass better? Obviously but let’s not make people think you can’t track it very well on stock stuff.

track days cost money, pads are cheap assurance you wont be out there wasting time and money. Cracks in drilled rotors are normal to me ,just replace them when they are thin and grooved.

I'm just commenting as someone who has tracked their type R multiple times vs someone speculating. Also depends on the track I've been doing Thunderhill which doesn't put as much stress on them as say Laguna turn 1.

i had the pads melt on me at the track i have since put the girodisc rotors and winmax w5 pads all the way around the rotors werent needed in my opinion but the pads were. My car is daily driven and sees canyon running and track days. The only time i have had the stock brakes be a issue was at the track running the car hard in tracks with lots of slowing/tight turns. After the sessions i always drive the car some to help let the brakes cool and never use the ebrake to hold the car just leave it in gear when done. The only down side of good track brakes is alot of brake dust and some squealing here and there when stopping on the street.

How are the winmax for daily driving? Are they hard on rotors?

For anyone who might find this thread later I got 13,500 miles out of my OEM brakes. In there were 7 track days and maybe 20 autocross events. The rears are basically metal on metal and the fronts still have some life.
