I recently bought a 1999 DX Hatch with only 45,000 Miles on it, the car was in a family since 1999 and an old lady sold it to me. The car is automatic, I bought it as my daily with the intentions of swapping a new motor and tranmission, so I can have fun on it time to time in the streets. Is still gonna be a daily even If I swapped a motor on it
The thing is if I'm being honest with myself is a 20yr old car, and Idk if is worth spending 10k in mods or getting a newer platform(car) like a Scion FRS or The new MX5(miata), there's a lot of things going on in my head and I just want someone to clarify if is worth the money or not, someone who had build this types of cars and someone that can be honest, don't get me wrong I LOVE MY CAR.
Worth is not intrinsic to anything; therefore, it is relative to your perspective; and once a man has changed the relationship between himself and his environment, he can never return to the blissful ignorance he once knew: motion, of necessity, involves a change in perspective.
anything is worth it, if you really want to. Look at those people who restore those rusted muscle cars. But since you asked, answer is no. Obviously, you just want to modify it "to be cool".
It's worth it IF it makes you happy with it in the end. I don't care to add up the money I've spent over the years building these cars, but they are by far one of my favorite platforms to mod. In the end, its what YOU think and want. Others opinions shouldn't sway you one way or another to make a decision on what to do with your time and money.
Also, that would be an excellent starting point. I wish I could find them that clean down here. If someone has a nice and clean EK, they want the price of gold for it.
Personally, the car is worth what ever you want. In short, this car is worth about a 3rd of the asking price you mentioned. Your choice, but for the money, you can buy a much nicer chassis.I've owned a lot of Honda/Acura cars over the years, there is always a deal out there. Just for a comparison, i picked up a 2003 Civic SiR (Si i the USA), with 100k a couple years ago for a couple grand. A newer, facncier chassis, completely loaded, k series powered and newer.Things to think about?.
Subjective question that no one will really be able to answer for you. If you have to ask and are already looking at other platforms, then I think it should be no.
Also looks like there's hood damage, areas where paint needs to be touched up, and the passenger exterior door handle is missing. Not what I would call "pristine contidions".
And lastly,
>implying an ITR swap costs $10K, much less a GSR swap.
Instead of asking externally everyone's opinion you need to ask yourself how much you love the car.
It doesn't matter the car you decide to drop 10K into modifying, you end up with one of the nicest cars in your area. And you rarely ever get the money out of the car regardless which car you choose.
What you get is the enjoyment of having the nicest version of that ride around.
So ask yourself, is this the car you want to have the nicest one around or is there another car that better suits your fancy?
OP, you have to decide what the term WORTH means to you. If it means that you spend whatever it takes to make a car the ride that makes you smile every time you drive it or show it off... and you haven't neglected your monthly expenses that are important like taking care of your family or your mortgage... then it is worth it. However, if it means that you spend 10K on a car so that you can flip it and make money... it is highly unlikely that this will occur since Honda Civic's aren't really very rare and most buyers are cheap and expect you to sell the car for pennies on the dollar. This means it is NOT worth it.
I spent 10k modifying my 1999 Civic. Worth it! Unless there was a way I could magically get that 10k back in a lump sum right now. Then I'd totally do it. Until then I'll just have to keep buying parts, I guess.
>implying OP will ever make a second post/response
1 post wonders asking stupid questions are the worst
In reality, our responses are not for the OP. Our very valid responses are for future users searching this exact thing out and seeing the philosophies and understanding we all are sharing here.
You are right, we most likely won't see OP again but who cares. I posted for everyone else searching this out in the future.
OP please don't instigate a pissing contest. Please know that you sticking around may seem like an exception and there is a high volume of one post wonders in the most recent months.
