Default Best reliable honda del sol build

I have a 1993 honda del sol si I just bought. I'm wanting to do modding to make a faster car will being reliable. I'm wanting to use the d16z6 I have in the car right now but dont know if I should turbo it or if a na build would be best. I want to stay light and very reliable what would you suggest. Sorry if this seem clustered I'm at work. Thanks for all the help.

Best bang for the buck would probably be a B18C or B20 swap, while maintaining the most reliability.

Next option would be turboing the Z6. It would get you more power and tq than the NA B series, but would also cost more and introduces quite a few more components that can potentially fail.

Not to mention the cost of a proper turbo build on a D engine would easily cost more than a basic B20 or LS VTEC setup.

IMO there's pretty much no reason to ever invest in upgrading/building a D engine.

Nah I wouldn't build the Z6. Just boost it to around the 200whp mark on a smaller turbo to make a good amount of tq. Can be pretty quick and fun if component selection is done right.

I know what you mean. Even leaving the Z6 stock though, just the cost of a proper turbo, wastegate, BOV, intercooler piping, and ECU tuning would come out to cost more than a drop-in B swap with an OEM basemap, while not making much/any more power and simultaneously having less headroom and more complexity. Plus D gear ratios are garbage.

Honestly I'm just a D15/D16 hater. I always have been lol . Only time I'd recommend someone using one is if they already had a collection of D parts laying around, or if the engine was already built.

EDIT: I knew you said light, but I also knew I didn’t care about that.

True it would cost more, be more complicated, etc etc as I mentioned in my first post.

BUT

A well done stock turbo D will smoke even a mild NA B series build anyday. Because torque.
