Del sol build help
Hey guys I'm new to the site and new to the honda scene. I have recently picked up a 93 del sol si in pretty good condition. I've really started to get into the honda scene and recently have been doing a lot of research into my car and what I would like to do to it. I was wondering if anyone could help me with my build with some recomondations for any parts for my car. I'm stuck between swapping out the stock d series motor with either a b16 sir or a b18c. I'm really looking into making this a reliable daily driver I also would like to get it up in the 350-400 hp range and still have it be reliable. I plan on storing the car in the winter anyway. If any of you could give me your opinions on which b series engine seems to be more reliable and what turbo set up would be good for the del sol that would be great. I'm sorry that I'm such a newbie this is my first build and I want to do it right and this forums seems to have people that are willing to give the best advice. I want to build it right but not have it break the bank. Good reliable parts that seem to have worked good for you guys in the past. I'm not some idiot that goes on ebay and buys all his parts off there either. I'm willing to spend the money for reliability but I am only 19 and don't make a **** ton of money so any advice on my first build would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Ben

Ben

Re: Del sol build help
I really don't have a set budget in mind due to knowing that it will take a long period of time to purchase everything I would want for my car. But I don't want to spend an insane amount of money on it. I'm gonna say probably around 10 thousand would be an amount that I wouldn't want to go to far over.

Any reason you choose 350-400 hp?

For 10k you have a lot of options, also 350-400 hp in a civic is a ton of power. Read the FAQS and look at B series swaps, H2B swaps. You can also build a d-series motor and turbo it. Either way you are going to have to go turbo to hit 350-400.

Everyone here swears by them http://www.hmotorsonline.com/
I personally know very little about H2B, search for Libertariats build thread though, he did a nice one.
The thing about 350-400 whp I think is that you are going to have to replace any of the motors we are talking about internals. I think if you shoot for 300 on certain b series you might be good with stock internals. Then again I can not remember exact numbers. You should search more about what it takes to get to 350-400. Try to find some build threads in the forced induction forum.

Re: Del sol build help
I just found out that a 93 deal sol that I got on a tow deal has a B16A2, what do you mean it goes nowhere? If you don't race, etc and just want it to be fun to drive and be able to get out of its own way when passing on a 2 lane, is it an ok option? If not, what's the way to go?

Re: Del sol build help
They are decent for boost and fun to rev out, but the have little torque and to be honest I am pretty disappointed in mine. I will be turbo'ing it this summer.

Re: Del sol build help
for 10k i'd be looking at something other than a civic lol. i'd suggest getting an rsx-s for around $6000 and doing a turbo setup on that.

Re: Del sol build help
Haha 2004 Sti's are one of my favourite cars of all time. They just seem to be all over priced around here. But I kinda want a project of my own thats why I want to stick to my del sol for the fact knowing that I put my hard earned money and time into my car and that it's something that I can be proud of.

Re: Del sol build help
Looking at building my Sol, trying to acquire all the knowledge for a swap. Honestly, I think that I am going to build my Del Sol just because I think it would be fun.
