Need help with 1990 civic timing!!

Default Need help with 1990 civic timing!!

Is the timing pointer on the belt cover suppose to match with "RED" Line or "White"?

depends on what you are doing - the white mark is for TDC and the red mark is used for ignition timing - if you are installing the timing belt, the white mark lines up with the pointer - if you are setting the ignition timing, the red mark lines up with the pointer, unless you are using a digital timing gun where you can input the desired degrees of timing into the gun - with the degrees (say 18) input into the gun, you line the white mark up with the pointer

white line is for mechanical timing(top dead center) with cam gear

red line is for ignition timing.
My crx hood label says 18+- 2 degrees
My timing light looks like this
And I set the **** to 18 and line up the red mark.
I know this is correct because in California, the emissions test, test the timing. And mine is consistently at 18+-2
